Week 3 - Camping World's Marketing to Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millenials and Gen Z

It is no secret that different age groups must be targeted in different ways. Baby boomers, Gen X, Millennials and Gen Z all have different interests and social values. To run a successful marketing campaign, you must know how you are going to target your specific target market.

Baby Boomers are people born between 1946 to 1964 and make up a large portion of the U.S. population. Because of their size, if baby boomers are successfully targeted, your business will do well because of it.  For a company such as Camping World, they would target to baby boomers with photos like this on their website. This photo shows a Baby Boomer enjoying quality time with his grandchildren using products purchased by Camping World. A specific product Camping World would target to this group would be RVs.

Gen X are people born between 1965 to 1977 and make up a smaller portion of the population than Baby Boomers. This group is made up of mostly parents and spend a considerable amount of time and money raising their children. Camping World would market to Gen X by saying their products will bring the whole family together. A specific product Camping World would target to this group would be tents that can have four people in it.

Millennials are people born between 1978 to 1994 and are mostly children of Baby Boomers. They are environmentally conscious and fans of being active in the outdoors. Camping World would market to millennials via social media and other forms of electronic media. Products Camping World would use to target this group would be apparel, like jackets and flannels, and footwear.

The final group is Gen Z, which contains people who have been born since 1995. Gen Zs prefer brands that have a positive ecological footprint. To target Gen Z, Camping World can introduce a campaign where they make donations for environmental corporations. A product Camping World can use to target Gen Z would be reusable water bottles from brands such as Yeti or Hydro Flask.

Camping World and other large retail corporations have many products and services. It is important for a marketing department to know which consumers want certain products.
